We've had such strange weather this year- a sign of the times, I suppose. From crazy wind knocking down our apple tree, to super dry summer to a weirdly wet fall... the crazy micro burst of rain that flooded the streets of Orem was definitely top of the list. I was taking a nap and woke up to Zach looking out the bedroom window. It was dark for 4o'clock in the afternoon and all I could see out the window was the neighbor's tree whipping around in the gray cloudy sky. Then, the rain started...
It was blowing SIDE ways, straight at the front of the house, coming in through the lock on the front door, through the screens on the windows- luckily, we have no window wells on the front of the house or they would have been full. It was wacky. As we watched, the gutter filled up, over flowed and ran all the way into the grass ALMOST getting up to the flower beds in front. The kids watched a coat float down the gutter/river. A neighbor broke out his kayak and let his neighbor go for a float. Another neighbor's garbage can was found 30 feet away.
Our cul-de-sac was FULL of water, with no drain to go down. We didn't go out until most of the storm had past and the rain water was retreating. You can see the line of wood chips where Weston is standing- that's how high the water came up the drive way!
We were luckier than others in the area who had flooding in basements and damage done to cars and roofs. Even the Asian pears stayed on their branches! We were blessed!
