Fall Break Adventures

Notice how I often title blogs "adventures"? Well, we really do have adventures! This is the tale of our Fall Break which we definitely took advantage of... Thursday morning we got up early (well, normal for us, early for the rest of the world:), loaded up the car and headed up to Heber/Midway. I've never actually been to Midway so it was fun to see the Swiss inspired buildings, check out the Crater at Homestead and see the new Heber Valley Creamery. (Squeaky cheese calling my name, of course!)

At the top of the crater which is used for mineral baths, snorkeling and even scuba diving.
Cheese balls!
From there, we headed up to Park City which is always a favorite hang out on a break... We hit Main Street for Rocky Mountain Olive Oil for Zach, the Park City Museum (which just happened to be free that day. I may or may not have planned some of the trip around that fact...) Rocky Mountain Chocolate factory for carameled apples, met Giff and Jenn at Blue Iguana for lunch (Mole` is our new favorite!) and even rode the Trolley around. From there we ran to the outlets just for a minute and found some great deals at Old Navy- Can't get better than $3-$4 jeans and shirts! This part of the trip was definitely deemed a success...
Look at the beautiful leaves!
Inside the old underground tram car from an old ski lift- it went in a tunnel up the mountain!
Daddy was showing his excitement...
The boys are in an old jail cell- the real jail is under the Park City museum, supposedly haunted by the ghost of a man who died there...
With Madison and the Park City bear.
Riding the Trolley! We've always wanted to but never done it- now we can say we have. :)
From there, we took our last detour and went up to Snowbird to go swimming and have dinner with Grandma Norviel, Maama and Kristi's family. The leaves were beautiful, the weather was beautiful and the pool was oh, so warm! Then we snuggled the kids in their jammies and headed for home...
And that was just Thursday.
Friday morning we did some jobs, cleaned some house, let Afton take a normal nap and then took Maddie for one more bout of ice skating. For how wobbly the kids started out on the skates, they were amazing by this last day! None of them even used a 'walker' and they were skating by themselves around the whole rink with out even falling down! Hyrum's confidence level on skates was up 100%! I was very impressed with all of them.
That night, Giff and Jenn came over for a fancy dinner by Zach and then I took my boys, Madison and Jordan over to BYU for a Chemistry show- it was amazing! It made me miss being in school and playing with all those chemicals. I remember the days when I actually knew the entire Periodic Table of Elements... The host of the show was so entertaining and all the experiments were awesome- consisting of lots of fire, smoke, color changes, explosions etc.

This was the final experiment- the Flaming Y!
And this is the giant flame ball it created! How awesome is that?
That night, Jordan stayed the night with us so we could get up the next day and hike the Y. No, it wasn't flaming (thank goodness) but it was beautiful weather and the boys made it all the way to the very top! Afton did good riding in the back pack too. :)
We came home to some experiments of our own- cabbage water and household chemicals can make a rainbow of colors!
We took advantage of the lovely weather and had a picnic dinner at the park before heading to Giff and Jenn's for Liesel's birthday- she turned 4!

In all, it was a very busy and successfully FUN Fall Break! I can't wait for Christmas break now!
