Harry Potter parties...

Once upon a time, it was almost Jordan's birthday but his birthday was on Sunday which makes it not so fun to party. But, Sharlee had a crazy idea. What if the cousins threw a surprise party for him, a surprise Harry Potter party? Jordan is the biggest Harry Potter fan who knows everything about every book and movie- next time you see him, ask him a question, any HP question and he can answer it. Anyway, after approving it with Jade, the party began to take shape:
Pumpkin pasties
Honeydukes candy store
Frogs, sorcerer stones, acid pops, exploding snaps, fizzing whizbangs, shockers, and Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans, of course!
The day of the party, the kids dressed up like wizards, Maddy came over and Jade came up with some reason for Jordan and Jess to come over. The look of bewilderment on Jordan's face was great though he recovered smoothly, put on HIS costume from Halloween (I had Jade bring over earlier) and we got started!
The wizards began at the train station, going through platform 9 3/4 to the Hogwarts Express were they started with a treasure hunt...
They followed the clues
all around the house
until they found their wands and goblin's gold to spend at Honeydukes! The treasure also included matching bracelets in Griffindor colors which say "I solemnly swear I am up to no good."
After snacking on treats that can blow off your face, they headed to Hogwarts to test their spell casting knowledge and practice their "wingardium leviosa'...
This is the HP shrine...
The spell test was on an extras DVD that came with HP 2. It had questions about spells and what their effects were. They passed their O.W.L.s with flying colors!
Oh, and Grace joined us looking fab in her witch outfit!
Once they passed their spell test and had a little practice, we moved on to discovering patroni. I got some of those gel covered tablets that dissolve in water and turn into animals. So, they each picked a tablet, dropped it in the water and said "Expecto patronum!" until they dissolved and they found out what their patronus was. Turns out, this isn't the season for those tablets and of all the stores I went to ,ToysRUs was the only one who had them. They only had ONE package and they were FARM animals. Most of the kids patroni worked out fine (Hyrum had a Ram, Jordan got a Bull, Jessica got a rabbit...) but Maddie ended up with the chicken. Can you imagine? "Expecto patronum!" and a chicken comes out- I laugh every time I think about it...
Anyway, after all that work, they were hungry so we headed up to the Three Broomsticks for
the pumpkin pasties and butterbeer (cream soda with whipping cream on top- who knew it was so tasty?). The best part of this was I called on "Harry" (Jordan) to say the prayer and he did the whole prayer in character with a accent and all. Yes, I laughed.

Happy Birthday Jordan! Hope it was magical!

That is just awesome! I doubt you remember, but we were walking from North to South Campus at EAC when you told me how much you loved the Harry Potter books. That was the first I'd heard of them! Glad you told me about them!
